the end of British rule over the nation in 1947 and the beginning of a free and independent Indian nation.
Every year, NESISM celebrates this day with patriotic fervour, with ardent participation from the students, teachers and flag-hoisting ceremony, drills, and the singing of the national anthem. The pandemic this year has restricted our movement, however, we celebrated a virtual Independence Day via YouTube Live.
Technology enabled us all to participate in these celebrations and witness them together with our families even in this pandemic. We were able to mark this special day for the country together despite the distances.

The celebrations started with the hoisting of the Tricolour by our Principal Sir, Dr. R. Vardarjan, who was escorted by the NCC band with full precautions. The band was completely prepared with masks, social distancing and all Covid- appropriate behaviour.
This year's Independence Day at NESISM was dedicated to the life of Captain Vikram Batra, the brave soldier who sacrificed his life at such a young age defending India's honour in the Kargil War. A beautiful biopic full of great dialogs, patriotic dances, music and fantastic acting was put up by the children across grades.
The biopic showcased how Capt. Vikram Batra was a person of endearing friendships, staunch patriotic zeal and a dedicated soldier. The students beautifully portrayed his life story with their performances. And the special effects on screen in terms of visuals, sounds, dialogs made this portrayal very realistic.
The highlight of the day was the inspiring speech by Dr. R. Vardarajan, who addressed the student leaders, and urged them to work towards contributing towards the nation. He highlighted how our freedom was achieved after so many sacrifices and is still intact due to more such sacrifices, and asked us not to take it for granted.
Our Director Sir, Mr. Balasubramaniam also addressed the student leaders and spoke about the importance of the student leaders instilling national spirit.
The key aspects of the celebrations were excellent editing by the editorial team, the impactful dialogs, the musical performances and a colourful performances by the student leaders. The celebrations were fittingly concluded by an art showcase of the paintings made by the student leaders around the theme of Kargil War, Vijay Divas and patriotism. In the words of Captain Batra, we were left with a feeling of "Yeh Dil Maange More!"
